Hello everyone!
I guess you can say this is my introduction to the Famitracker forums and the Famitracker in general. I have been doodling around with Famitracker from time to time but only recently I have started to actually do "real" stuff with it. I never had a NES or a Famicom when I was young(-er), (*GASP*) so I have no history with the actual system, all of my experience with NES-games comes from what I have played of the sequels on the SNES or the Gameboy. I'm basicly a real newbie, but I have heard a lot about the music and about the games from other sources, like friends and random sites on the internetz! So, here are 3 random covers!

The Super Turrican cover: I freaking hate that silly pitching on the instruments. It lead to soooo many frustrations in my semi-perfectionist, meaning I am a perfectionist but I am to lazy to be perfect, brain. So the cover isn't 100% accurate. I kinda love-hate these songs, they are so awesome to listen to but so difficult to get exactly right.

Final Fantasy Victory Theme: I made this cover while I was at our family's summerhouse. I think I spent a lot of time to actually make it sound as close to the original as possible, with some decent success I think. I just made this cover because everyone knows of this glorious song and it is so damn catchy.

Xexyz - 3 cover: I pretty much made this just because I really enjoyed listening to the NSF.

Here comes a couple of questions from the new guy:

Does anyone have a recommendation for something that plays or converts GBS files? (Same for SPC files).

Are there any huge packs of NSFs or GBS files out there? I can't seem to find any (I guess I'm not looking hard enough).

I have a craving for covering shoot'em ups, or similar music. I know you have some hidden away, so throw dem at me!

Some advice and feedback would also be a wonderful thing for me to receive! Also suggestions of how I can improve would be lovely or what I "should" cover to get better.

Sincerely, John a.k.a "Curious"

(Apologies for the not so long block of text).

TL/DR: I'm new guy. Here's first post. Read questions. Check the FTMs. Leave feedback. Thank you.

Yeah this is good.

NSF Pack - Commercial game rips scroll down and click "Download complete archive ZIP".

List of GBS commercial game rips (no full download available though)

There's no homebrew NSF archive per se, though ui is working on one as we speak. The thread is right here.

As for playing GBS and SPC files, I recommend getting foobar2000 and the foo_gep plugin by kode (google it).

All of these sound good to me, and I second jrlepage's notion to use foodar2000. I have yet to find an obscure video game format it can't play.

The largest pack for NSF archives I know of is the dendy soundtracks. If you don't mind torrenting it, it consists of the 2a03.org archive, Akumu's archive, Kevin Horton's NSF collection, Slick NSFe collection, and zophar.net collection all in one downloadable package. The only issue is that you get alot of duplicates of songs in the dendy soundtracks. You can google it if you want to find it.

Thanks a lot for your feedback and being so quick with answering my questions! I really didn't expect to have such a positive response!

I will probably do more covers until I have learnt a little more how the Famitracker functions then you might see a couple of terrible originals from me.

these high notes with these fast vibratos in super turrican cover remind me of music from these horrible pirate games for NES... especially Sonic the Hedgehog. but it isn't bad, actually, i really like these.

Thank you!

The Super Turrican cover was such a pain to make but I guess it turned out around 80-85% like the original. But the music of that game sounds soooo good, I just couldn't stop myself.

Actually, the music driver for Super Turrican was created by the legendary David Whittaker and then modded by the composer Manfred Trenz.
