Weird little bluesy tune in swing time that started as an exercise to teach myself how to use FamiTracker's various effects, before which I had only used portamento once.

Big thanks to user DjJizzer5 who graced my first little melody loop with some marvelous chords that remain 99% unchanged in this version.

UPDATE:

I went in and manualy adjusted all of the VRC6 volume values until the mixing of the nsf version sounded comparable to me. The sustain is still too loud, but I don't think there's anything I can do about that.

Ok, so I was going to attach an nsf but it sounds... well, when I play it in nsf play the chords are considerably louder than in FamiTracker and then when it gets to the drum fill it just goes insane. Does the Dxx effect not work in the nsf exporter?

Well then, something's obviously wrong with that... Are you using famitracker 0.3.8 beta 5 to export or 0.3.7? Do you have rainwarrior's latest version of nsfplay?

Nice song, by the way.

Thanks. I'm using 0.3.7 and the latest version of nsfplay. I did some research and it seems like the FamiTracker's nsf exporter just has issues with the Dxx command, as I suspected. I changed the structure of things a bit so I could use D00 instead of D20 and it works now!

I'll leave the broken version up there as a cautionary tale.

The mixing is still off though.

Corrected the mixing manually and updated the OP with that version.

You tell me my instruments need work. You tell me I can't end my song on a C major chord. What's this? You go posting a song that isn't even entirely your own work.

I give this 81/FF.

You should feel ashamed.

(Just kidding, I really like it. Also, can you tell me where you're learning your rudimentary music theory from? I really need to get me some of that.)

Wikipedia mostly. Start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatonic_scale

Learn all the natural modes. Learn the circle of fifths. Follow enough links and you'll pretty much know all of music theory eventually. Before long you'll be able to understand this:
http://mugglinworks.com/chordmaps/genmap.htm

which is quite useful for building chord progressions.
