Hey! I'm just trying to get used to Famitracker and started covering the Main Title out of Medal of Honor: Rising Sun. I havent added any drums yet and is only half complete thru the song, but was hoping to have some critique on what was wrong and right about my method, thanks guys!
I like the attention to dynamics and timbre, but it sounds very harsh.
There's a lot of possible reasons for this, but it'd honestly not do much good to start offering up suggestions to you since there are so many different ways to 'fix' it. One concept however, is understanding how to properly create an illusion that convinces the listener of instrument behavior, not just timbre alone.
I'd recommend finding an .nsf of a game that has instrumentation and sound design that you really like and just study it(particularly something with horn sounds). Use rainwarrior's nsf importer and look how they're doing things and try using it in your cover here.
