Frame 1B does it for me... Also, I think the pure, uncondensed awesome bleeding from this song, may have killed my NES. The Powerpak never finishes loading the song, and it is met with only random sprites from the various ROMs I have loaded onto it (Mr. Gimmick and Captain Roast [of BEEF] on the same screen? No, thanks).
Congratulations, you have created something that even the hardware it's designed for believes it is not worthy...
Or maybe the file is too large... Meh, I like to believe the former.

This song is freakin' amazing. Both the name and everything in the song. Sort of reminds me of some music from Sonic 2 with the funk-ish sound. Man, I love this.
I have a question, though. I've seen a lot of people use F03 and F04 alternating repeatedly. Does this give you swing time?
Sort of. Some tempi are incompatible with the NES's 60 frames per second (50 for PAL region), so some audio engine updates are skipped for those tempi. When tempo = 150, then speed = amount of audio engine updates per tracker row. By alternating between 3 and 4, it makes the engine uodate irregularities clearly visible, making it easier to use effects such as Gxx, or to align arpeggio macros properly.
Hmm, okay. So in addition to adding swing time (since the speed update is happening every other row instead of every row), it's intended to achieve essentially an overall speed of 3.5 while keeping the effects in sync with their clock? Interesting.
I modified the song with the Fxx alternating every row instead of every other row and sure enough, there was definitely no swing. Not worth posting as it's vastly inferior to the original.
Really amazing song man I love it!!! Still a little fuzzy on the whole F03 F04 time change thingy, cuz i've never seen it before. The whole composition is great though, can't wait to hear more!

ehh sounds alright for a bit, although I can't imagine listening to this whole thing from start to finish.
if you're going to write something that's 6 minutes long it should have a LOT more variety than this. the 2a03 squares get really annoying after awhile.
I agree with mex; It's okay but it just doesn't have very much variation at all. It just feels like you're listening to the same thing over and over again as the song progresses, plus I'm not the biggest fan of your instrumentation (but that just might be my tastes speaking to me).
Constructive criticism aside, keep up the great work.
A lot of cool moments, but I'm gonna lay down my 2c as well...
It needs an established dynamic range! Everything's just FULL BLAST the entire song and it gets repetitive and a bit tiring even though the ideas have a nice flair to them. I'm sure this is the 'lack of variety' that mex and zephemeros are hearing. You could play the same note over and over again for 6 minutes as long as you are telling an interesting story with the volume and tone.
Things like an overly masked kick, snare and bass, due to the loud volume of the squares, take away a lot of potential excitement. This can be solved by playing around with the square volumes just enough to hear the kick and snare punch through and able to clearly hear the bass shake around. At the point you've established this, THAT should be your loudest point in the song, so save that setting for the big climaxes. Everything else should bow down to the climaxes and contrast with them, you'll end up with some punchy stuff! This song insinuates a lot of drops, and you can't lay down that badass drop successfully when it's already being preceded by maxed out volume and energy.
edit: and yes, this will make the song sound 'quieter' overall, but that's why people have the option to turn that shit up! : ) Turning up a good, punchy mix will always sound more exciting than a super loud mix with no story and no range.
Also, since you're doing some post production, you can always just slap a limiter on there or normalize to bring everything back up.
Ah... yeah. The version I put up with the other expansion chips has no "post production" done to it yet. I just put together the different famitracker files into one. I see what you mean gyms with the dynamic range. But I totally don't see how there's no variation in the music. I have worked very hard on this track and tried very hard to keep it interesting and I think I succeeded on that part. Though, I haven't mixed it properly yet. That might be why you guys think it's repetitive. I don't know... friends of mine who have heard the song didn't say anything about repetitiveness. If anything they said it was my least repetitive song and that the song kept the excitement (if you can call it that) throughout. I'm gonna finish mixing this song and follow your advice Gyms and then see what you guys say.
