Hello everyone!
I got Famitracker a few years ago in college and fooled around with it a bit... that's what she said? lol
Anyway, I recently found it on my old HD and found that my tunes were still there! So have a listen if u wana here some probably unfinished stuff from my old bad self.
Love lots of the stuff ive heard on the forum too!
Foxinthehole - It would help if you took the time to learn the limitations of the NES before you started composing for it. For instance, I see you tried to change the triangle's volume in a few places, but the triangle channel has no volume - it's either fully on, or completely off.
Also, there's a few useless volume inputs on the noise channel.
You're using Fxx very wrongly as well. Fxx changes either speed or tempo, depending on the value. F00-F14 changes the speed, F15 - FFF changes the tempo. The tracker uses hexadecimal (or base 16) for effects so you get a wider range for values, so going from F20 to F19 is effectively jumping from tempo 32 to 25.
Lastly, your tune lacks direction. You're inputting those frames one at a time and it shows.. There's no real "link" between your patterns and as such your tune is just that - a series of nonsensical patterns. I think you should probably work on that. The advice is old and you'll see it a lot here, but you should probably start by doing covers. That way you'll pick up various styles and methods and it'll help you create your own style.
Read the [url=http://famitracker.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page]Wiki, too. There's lots and lots of useful information for beginners like yourself.
I actually thought it was quite interesting even if there where some things that didn't make sense in the tracker itself, you still pulled off an interesting atmospheric song. You've got all sorts of neat effects in there.
I'm... not sure what those last couple frames where about though, lol.
I know there's a guy who says he's [url=https://twitter.com/#!/8RushMusic]working on it. I've got other fish to fry for the time being.
Anyhow, to get back on topic, there are a few neat ideas in here. Maybe I'd suggest trying to write harmony a bit more; what you've got seems to just transpose the same chord/harmony up and down. I find it helps to think of chords as three or four separate lines that should each move like their own melody.
