So this is what I decided to do in the new beta...
I tried to go for super accuracy by using NSFimport for volume levels, noise frequencies, in-instrument-vibrato, and timing. For the SN5B I used audacity, so it's all purely educated guessing. I apologize for the extra Namco channel if it bothers you. If it wasn't already obvious I used it for the speed so I could have a somewhat clear area to work in. I think all of these factors contributed in what I think is the most accurate thing I've done so far... And I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't impress some of you who have already used the beta to cover and write songs far more complex than this, but when this almost perfectly matches up with the NSF and an NES, it's a GREAT feeling.
So... here you go.
I though it would be a good idea to do this... as I seem to be the only one doing it.

I think jrlepage made an NSF before the beta was released in which he actually MADE noise... Kinda like how you can make FDS noise.
EDIT: Look at my noise... there goes the Sunsoft.

I made it after the beta was released, though I got the idea from kulor, who did make it prior to the release.
Here's a noise instrument that can be used at 60 Hz (the FTM above was made at 360 Hz). It only really works up to E-2, so it's not optimal, and other people will probably come up with better solutions - but for now, I guess that's usable.
Just realised I completely forgot to comment on this FTM! You did an amazing job, and the faux-5B sounds spot-on! I'm surprised you didn't use NSFPlay though. :p
The exported NSF (make sure you enable all 8 channels so you hear the DPCM, and change all N163 vibrato depths from 1 to 4) does weird things when I play it on my Power Pak though... Did you try it on yours?
In any event, I hope you'll turn this into real 5B when it's implemented!
...I'm surprised you didn't use NSFPlay though.
I actually did, although it displayed volume levels oddly. I had to estimate because there are apparently more than 16, and anything higher than 14 had an "E" beside it(...13, 14, E0, E1...). So I ended up using VirtuaNES's Memory Viewer, and that "in-between volume level feature" I found out the N163 had for volumes, and Audacity for the duration of the notes and volume levels.
EDIT:
The exported NSF does weird things...
In NSFplay and on the PowerPak, the note releases didn't register volume wise for the 2A03. They worked fine with the N163, however. I even tried exporting it 2A03 only and still no volume release...
EDIT^2: I added an instrument for the volume decay that doesn't work in Instrument 01. It should work in NSF form and on the Powerpak now.
fme7 is dumb
just download Vortex Tracker and you'll see that
But but... AY-3-8910 + 2A03!
Think of all the possibilities!
From what I remember, your reason for disliking the AY-3-8910 is its lack of polyphony and of redeeming features to compensate. But slam a 2A03 alongside it, and bam! Problem solved!
