I need some genuine critique on this tune; it's something that evolved from the short loops thread. I honestly think I'm missing something & that I'm starting to lose my touch with the tracker, but you guys can do whatever the hell you want with this tune &/or tell me how I can improve it.
inb4 tempo swing troll thread.

You sure know how to write medieval styled songs. I think it fits the title well and it very much sounds like it could be in a NES game. Something along the lines of a story developement or cut scene song.

Thanks; most of my inspiration does come from Medieval music, but also from composers of the late 19/early 20th centuries & from folk songs.

... I think it's 4chan imitation time...

Never written a waltz in my life, but you nailed 3/4 time and it certainly has the feel of a waltz melodically.
It looks like you're using the Zxx for volume control on the Triangle channel. I looked at the DPCM samples you have loaded up and the naming intrigues me. Can you use samples to actually control the Triangle channel's volume?
I'd have to say this is easily out of my league in terms of critiquing and/or adding anything to it.
In my opinion, the rhythm is too repetitive.
duh duh duhhhhhh, duh duh duhhhhh throughout the whole song. Which could still work well, if there was a strong melody behind it.

Well, I was actually trying to experiment with using the DPCM samples, but I failed miserably; I must have forgotten to get rid of them & use the proper samples from previous threads.

Yes; I actually agree with you on this, which is why I also feel I'm starting to lose my touch with the tracker. It's as though I've hit a road block & can't think of better/stronger melodies to expand this (since I feel it's more like an introduction). Could you push me in the right direction with even a minor edit; maybe that will inspire me to improve this.

Holy crap; that's an amazing transformation! I love how you managed to pull off a style reminiscent of the Baroque era. It's a similar sort of mood, but it's a tremendous improvement over what I started with.
I do hear quite a bit of clashing notes, though; I'll see what I can do to further this & post back.
EDIT: Here's the reworked rework; I figured that your 2A03 square accompaniment was conflicting with the MMC5 square notes due to a number of things (the shallow pitch changes in 2A03 squares compared to the vibrato in the MMC5 squares, combined with the different duty cycles in each channel & the fact that the 2A03 notes didn't fit well with any particular key). So, I changed a few notes, decreased the channel's volume & added some faster volume fades to soften the discord. But a sign of a great tune is the fact that there's so very little to change. I also added the DPCM triangle volume change.
Thanks a million, kev. And feel free to add yourself in the credits if you modify my work!
