some ftm i was working on for the past day or so. i started writing it in the middle, and ended up not finishing it at all since i'm bored of it.

if anyone feels like expanding or stealing this, go ahead!

okay well maybe not stealing, but you get the point.

Sounds very konami-ish (and a part reminded me of Bayou Billy music which isn't really like this) but how did you not put Z00 or Z10 everywhere in the DPCM channel? It's just a Konami thing to do!

This is definately good. Maybe one day you'll get reinspired to finish it.
Oh, and I sent you a PM, Mex. Not sure if the forum lets users know if they get any (I discovered I had one just awhile ago from last year).

za909: Thanks for that Zxy edit, I was thinking about adding some myself but I guess I just got lazy and forgot about it.

Fezuke: Thanks! I was moreso influenced by Konami then trying to go for a full-out emulation, but I'm glad to hear the sound design was just as enjoyable.

Raijin: I didn't see a notification about your PM, but I do have it. I'll respond to it soon.

If I had anywhere near the level of skill that you have, Mex, I'd try to give a little push by adding something myself to get you going again.

This said, it sounds complete as is & almost reminds me of TSSF's MM10 cover.

This is badass and I can hear bits of Contra Force 's stage 1 theme here and there - not that I have a problem with that, since that song's probably one of my favourite commercial NES tunes.

FamiTastic! (God I hope that doesn't catch on)

As much as I'd love to continue this, I wouldn't be able to handle the Konami style all too well. You did a really fine job with this--anything I could add would probably just tarnish the piece. :^/

A shame you grew bored with it. It'd be great if you found the inspiration to pick it up again.

Thank you very much!

Well I think the main thing is I'm tired of writing "serious" sounding music. I really want to try and write something more uplifting and jazzy before I do more stuff that's so heavy and minor.

I'm really struggling with that though hahaha. It really does sometimes feel like this is the only kind of music my mind wants me to write.

I feel the exact same as you Mex. I can't write out of my comfort zone. Usually my style will be according to the Instrument pack I steal LOLOL. Like my newest track is with your instrument pack from this song. Honestly it's all you guys that inspire me to write. I always find new tricks to tryout. I'm baffled at how you know when to use what F07/F01 or F06/F02 combos. I tried taking them out and putting a steady tempo and it greatly affects the sound. I want to understand why and when to use this.

glad to know someone else feels like same way. instrument packs might make a big difference, although i wouldn't be sure since i usually either make all my own instruments on the spot (excluding the snare here for obv. reasons), or i make them with pattern effects and blank instruments (like how i handled my fcm8 original, which i'll post up here once the voting is done).

whenever i am using Fxy tricks like F01F07... or F02F06..., i am thinking pretty logically about what's going on at a lower level than what is is showing up in the tracker. i would say i'm thinking along the lines as someone would think while working within 900bpm. for example, i'll use the F01 pattern whenever i want single channel echos to be really sharp, and cutoffs to be really clean. this way i have 1 tick of space to work with at the very end of every note.

this is most useful in the triangle, actually, since i'm getting the smallest cutoff as possible which will let the triangle sound as full as possible without having to muck about with Gxy or cutoff instruments.

the F02 pattern i used mostly in sections where i wanted to have more dramatic single channel echos. having a 2 tick delay time is pretty konami-esque.

for a pretty good comparison on how the sound is effected, i would look at the power chord breaks at 07 - 0A beside the power chord break at the end. the one at the end is a lot more forceful and sharp mostly because of the longer sustain of higher volume tones, coupled with the quick cutoffs.

anyways hope that made some sense. using pattern effects creativity is really fun and effective when doing music in trackers, i find.

oh yeah, i went through a similar thing with mega man music. i had written so many themes i was kind of starting to get sick of it. i really wanted to try something new and different--hence the boy vs principal series, hazelnut series, and heavier focus on rpg styled music.

best of luck to you, man. i hope you find whatever you're looking for, and either way, i'll be stoked to give your stuff a listen.

Wait a second... V04 in pattern 07?
I'm confused :P
This is very impressive though, Mex. It really feels quite konami-esque.
