Hiya,

As you guys may have guessed, I'm new to the forums here. I've been messing around with FamiTracker for a couple years and just now feel brave enough to post some links for you guys to listen to my stuff.

My stuff's very much in the Mega Man/Castlevania vein, but I like to think that I throw in enough of my own personal touches to lend it a unique feel. Hope you guys enjoy!

Hi, welcome to the forums.

These tunes make me feel you're off to a good start. Vermillion Flash is my favourite one so far.

Purely for your information, it's usually considered good practice to share your FTM sources when posting here, since this is after all the FamiTracker forums, and helping you improve not only your musical but also famitracking skills is the purpose of this section. It's not a rule or anything, and we don't enforce it, so feel absolutely free to disregard it.

In any event, good job, looking forward to hearing more.

I like the music, TheSyntaxSinTax. There are several items I feel you can improve on, but it'd be better to explain if the FTM file were posted up here. This said, you're off to a good start here.

Hey guys.

Thanks for the feedback (especially the positive kind).

There are definitely some things that I know I can improve on going forward. I didn't use the DPCM channel, so all "drums" are noise channel and pitch-shift down on the triangle channel for the "toms". I've played around with the wav-to-DPCM importing a little bit on the latest version of FamiTracker and liked the general results, so I'll probably use it in later compositions.

Musically I come from playing in a long line of metal/progressive bands, so a lot of my approach to melody and instrumentation comes from there, along with the aforementioned gaming classics. I also have a strong appreciation for Baroque counterpoint. I don't know if any of this was readily apparent or even important, but I thought I'd bring it up to give you an idea of where I'm coming from in writing terms. I'm sure everybody could wax poetic forever about their influences, so I'll just leave things there for now.

As far as posting the FTM is concerned, I kind of have a whole bunch of extraneous stuff in a large file, so I'd want to narrow things down a bit before I would consider posting anything.

These are pretty good for a new guy.

Now that you're here that's gonna increase from good to godly within the year, I be guessing. Everyone learns faster when guided by screaming people, trolls, gods among men and people who only specialize in one thing.

Yes, I just summed up the entire forum.

Well, as I stated previously, I'm only really "new" in terms of involvement with this board. I've been using FamiTracker since December of '09, so I've had some time to learn the ropes. Although I've gotta say that the wiki has definitely been super helpful for filling in any gaps in knowledge and those times of pondering "how did they get that really cool sound in that one game?".

It's quite refreshing whenever I figure out something new about how to work with the program. It might make me sound super derpy, but I only JUST figured out that you could have up to 4 fx commands per note per channel a month or so ago. I was staggering my fx commands over a series of notes.

Although when it comes down to it, working within limitations tends to force you to be more clever about how you do things, which is sort of what makes FamiTracker fun to begin with.

Excellent songs. I especially like the ones already mentioned, The Third Degree and Vermilion Flash, and also the newest one (I don't remember its name, but it has the word 'blue' in it).

I listen to The Third Degree every time I need inspiration. It just fills me with energy. Again, pretty cool songs, it really seems like you put a lot of effort into each of them.

Also, a question, although it is kind of inappropiate to ask it in this post: how do you make the pitch up and pitch down sounds? It would help me a lot to know how to do them, although I can easily look how to do them in Youtube or Google, or even in these forums if you feel to lazy to answer to my question.

I had a really long, well thought-out response, but it got killed by the forum time-out. Blarg. >

Ultrasonic Blue is the latest song and I'm quite proud of it. I'm also glad that anything I do could be considered "inspirational". Quite flattering. I'd let it all go to my head, but then I might lose my balance and fall over.

There are two things that I usually do for messing with pitch. One is the "Pitch" parameter in the instruments menu. My setting for pitch down is "0 3 6 9 12 15 18 | 21 " and pitch up is "-11 -10 -9 -8 -7 -6 -5 | -4 ". Make sure you click the check box next to "Pitch" in the instrument window to enable the effect.

I also get a lot of pitch-related effects through the poratamento command, which is how I got the seamless transitions between notes in songs like Ultrasonic Blue. "300" is default, while "310", "315", and "330" tend to be my most common settings.

Hope this helps you out.

Great stuff, I have nothing to say about the music. Awesome stuff. The only place you lose points is on Volume Control. You may need to work on that in the future.

Great stuff!

Fezuke, is your objection regarding how I control the volume or the volume levels themselves? Either way, I was wondering if you could explain in greater detail. I'm just wondering if what you're getting at is in terms of a technical problem or a subjective opinion. I'm open to suggestion either way, but I'm not sure exactly what I "lose points" on.

Glad you like the music overall though.
