Hey, guys.
This is my last cover for the year, so I hope you guys have a Happy New Year, and again, I hope you guys had a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays, etc.
This cover is for Defender of the Crown. Since I own the source code to the NES version, I was able to get the names of the songs.
I've never heard it in the game (I own an actual copy). I don't know where in the game that song plays. It's just what the source file name is called. I updated the FTM due to some tuning issues on the title music. Also, coincidentally, I've never heard the Atari ST version of the soundtrack, only a little bit of the C64 and Amiga version.
I've been meaning to put the ST version on YouTube for a while... haven't got around to it yet. (It's pretty similar to the other versions of the soundtrack.)
The princess track happens when you save a princess (unless something is different with the NES version).
You need to play for a bit, and one of the Normans will capture a Saxon princess. You can do a special raid to rescue her, and if you do she becomes your wife (and her Saxon father will retire and leave you his land). It's pretty much the best single thing that can happen to you in the game, other than winning, I guess.
Ah, OK. The composer for the NES version left a rather funny message, too:
Dear Fred, I came in on friday night to do some new sound effects for Defender of the Crown. Unfortunately Howard's area boasted no functioning Nintendo workstation. I tracked down the system I had used previously in another part of the building and moved it to Howard's area. The sound cable I had been using fell off in the process of moving Nintendos. Yes, fell off. When Craig had fixed the sound cable the Nintendo refused to power up, so we tried another Nintendo. When we plugged it in to the power supply Howard had been using it blew up. It would appear that Australian and Japanese Nintendos have different power requirements. Some things in this situation bear noting: - Howard's area is such a total jungle of cables that we had almost no way of telling what power supply was connected where. - Equipment 'borrowed' from Howard's area never comes back. - How was Howard working on Nintendo games? Could you please arrange for there to be a PERMANENT Nintendo and Commodore setup capable of playing sounds hooked up to Howard's PC from now on so that I don't have to go through this bullshit. It's costing you money and it's frustrating me. Regards, Neil P.S. Speaking of money, could you do something about the eternal battle I seem to be having with Yvonne to get paid ?
A Beam Software musician Gavan Anderson gave it to me. I would give it to you but he told me not to give it out to anyone until he got it licensed and as far as I know, he hasn't. If you want it though, I can get you in touch with him. It's not just this game, but a bunch of other Beam Software games, too (Back to the Future, Bigfoot, Road Runner, and more).
Oh, that's okay. I was just wondering if it was made public or something, like someone did with [url=http://www.programmerfish.com/source-code-of-several-7800-games-released/]a bunch of 7800 games a while back.
