How many of you have played Super Mario XP? It's a fan game that combines the story and platforming of Super Mario Bros. with Castlevania gameplay elements, like health and sub-item usage.

Well, I'm making something similar--a fan game called Super Mario Bros.: Creatures of the Night. While it's in progress, I made several VRC6 arrangements of both Mario and Castlevania songs just for it.

I could do a bit of cleaning up some stuff, and not all of the songs currently on the file are complete (#32, 37, and 41), but oh well.

YES, get rid of the tubular bell samples. It's the only black mark on an otherwise world-class soundtrack. Bell sounds are best done as slowly fading tones anyway.

This one is EXCELLENT. Big thumbs up!

Yikes, 167kb of STUFF. I've only listened to a few tracks so far, but it's been nice. Good job. (I'm not minding the bell samples either. They remind me of the ruins in Secret of Mana.)

Listening to the tubular bell samples through laptop speakers, they aren't as bad, but they're terrible through headphones.

I was using headphones.

They don't sound like tubular bells, of course, but I don't mind the sound.

I had to cram them in with the rest of my DPCM samples, which is why they kind of suck.

They tend to suck more on lower frequencies than on higher ones... yeah, I'm leaning towards scrapping them.

Tubular bells don't compress well. DPCM tubes suck in the best of conditions.

Oh man, this is great! 'BOSS--Count Bowser' is just... wow! I love how you mixed the styles. Excellent work.

I'll link to a playable demo when it's complete.

As for now, I'll probably stop composing to focus more on making the game itself. (I should have done that some time ago :P)

I've finished Theme of Simon and I've done some cleanup. No more crapular bells.

Progress on game development is going slowly, but at least it's going. Mario can walk, run, and jump onto platforms of differing elevation now, although he's a bit buggy.

I'm considering scrapping the last song--although I have yet to see someone else make a VRC6 cover of the final boss theme from M&L:BIS, the "secret" bonus boss battle with Weegee is the only place where it would play as of now.

Perhaps I shouldn't have spoiled that in my previous FTM. Oh well. It's not like you people know where to find him.

So far, I've heard songs 1-12, and I gotta say this is a very great concept. I'm lovin' the originals as well as the themes from the respected games you've covered. :D
