I've heard 1_single_audio_channel.ftm before, but I still love! Great stuff.
As for the other one, it's cute, but it feels like something's missing. So I'd have to go with the FDS one. B)
EDIT: FDS export seems to be broken though (the flute vibrato is way too deep :\).

I record (some) NSFs on hardware. Feel free to [url=http://www.famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=3633]request a hardware render.
In another direction, I've attached the tune that introduced me to the concept of one channel tracking. "Dream of One" by E-Keet. It gets a lot done without arpeggiating.
My go-to example of how far you can take arpeggiating is the [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiURTmwpX2U]PC Speaker intro to The First Samurai. It's madness. (When it does vibrato on just one tone in the arpeggio... that always kinda blows my mind.)

DO check this out. Madness is an understatement. I can't even fathom how many hours went into coding this. Discernible echoes on a single channel with no volume control = absolutely out of this world.
I'd certainly have to agree that the first one sounds the best, but they're still both great :D
Speaking of more innovative uses of PC speakers, check [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OmO-9c_kP4]this out. It may be more than one channel, but it's still pretty cool nevertheless.
