hello, thanks for taking the time to look at my post. i made this song. I'm not very knowledgeable with effects but i like it. hopefully you will have some good ideas for me. i don't know what effects would work best with the type of chip tune I'm going for. there is a lost of experienced, and great 8-bit artists on here so I'm looking forward to some great replies.
yours truly,

I just had a listen; it's random at times, but I can see what style you're trying to get at here.
One good thing about the song is the DPCM channel's drum beat; it's nice & stable. It's perfect for timing. The problem here is coming up with an actual melody, so I'd recommend that you start with a good, solid bass in a Rock style. Then, try creating a lead tune that fits your bass.

word, thanks guys. that make me happy you like drums. i have always loved beats. like I'm trying to go for a iamerror, bubblegum octopus type deal i know I'm far off but still
i have a question. whats a good key. how can i make the note in the same key.
your replies make me want to jump back on that file and get to work.
When you do something like Do Re Mi, that's known as a key. The most common key is C major, where notes like C, D, E, etc. correspond to Do, Re, Mi, etc.
There are more keys than C major, each with a distinct tone. One thing you can try is to type the full scale from C-3 to C-4 in order. Play it once. Then, highlight all the notes & press CTRL+F2; you'll shift the notes up one key. Play it; you'll hear the same pattern using different notes, giving a different mood. Keep repeating this until you reach back to C major, where you have C-4 through to C-5 instead of what you started with.
You need to choose a key that fits the mood of your song & stick to it; a good key depends on how you want your song to sound (happy songs use C major as the key, for example).
It's important to maintain the same key in a song; don't change to a different key completely & abruptly, unless you want to cause confusion in your music. If you need to change the key, you need to do so with a smooth transition (& for beginners, it can be a nightmare).

Here'a a little something I've decided to do for you; I've used your drum beat to make a little tutorial that you can follow. I've added my own bass; it's your turn to create a lead tune. Otherwise, anyone else can fill the void. It's just something to learn from.

Try making a signature instead.
More on topic, your FTM doesn't really demonstrate any familiarity with the tracker... Or indeed music making at all, sadly. My advice to you is to watch tutorials (there are some on YouTube.. or so I heard), read the wiki and help files, download some FTMs from this site and maybe learn a bit on music theory.

but im not going to go to youtube. thanks..
personally I think that's a big mistake, (because I learned how to use the tracker by watching danooct's awesome tutorial) but it's up to you! Just don't let flaming and hate take your motivation away, should you get any...
