Yo, been awhile.

I was messing around with FamiTracker this evening, and put this thing together with some new effects and composition techniques I'm trying out. Maybe someday I'll branch this out into a full fledged song, but for now I'll upload it as is for kicks.

Yeah, this is pretty cool. My friend is trying to make a machinima-type video, and he wants me to make the DPCM channel into a guitar part. Seeing as how he knows absolutely nothing of music, Famitracker, or my sense of dignity, I almost slapped him in the face.

Still, this is pretty awesome! If you don't finish it, I'll take the leftovers...

If you manage to complete this in good time, your track should be entered into this year's FamiCompo Mini. I'd say your song can actually rival a good number of the rock tracks in Hellsing OST: Raid & Hellsing OST: Ruin.

Keep it up, Mex.

I really liked this! Great guitar solo.

I think one little change that could make this song even better (To my ears), would be to lower the volumes of your guitars to give a chance to the Drums and bass to come out a bit more. I usually stay away from F volumes, unless it's an emphasized hit.

I'd like to know exactly what you did for the postprocessing (I can hear some panning). I love how it sounds on 8bc!

Thank for the responses!

I've gone ahead and, as you've said, added some slight panning. In addition, I've added a bit of a reverb, and an a bit of equalizing to bring out the bass and drums. This was to something in regards to what Fezuke said, the NSF version sounds a bit quiet, and therefore, a bit empty. That said, the only way I could make the drums louder would cause the Triangle and Noise to get quieter, which is no good. The only other possible way to do it would be to turn down the squares, but then I would be looking at a lot less possible volume registers to work with, which is also no good for things like power chords, and pinch harmonics.

So anyway, I'm thrilled you liked the sound of the 8bc version! I wasn't sure if people would like the more modern sound to it, but maybe it was a good idea after all. I'll tweak with it a bit more before I release my album and maybe make it sound a bit better.

Okay, what exactly is the Famicompo Mini? I've heard about it before, but I'm not entirely sure what it is...

It's a competition where you submit whatever works you create for the fun of it (& for acclaim).

I went ahead and tried the volume changes myself to hear how it would sound. I like it. I also added a Zxx for the bass drum to try to see how that sounds.
