... You're the next contestant on THE PRICE IS RIGHT!
Or something to that effect. I went back through my collection and pulled out Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! on the NES for kicks, and thought to myself, "You know, it's a darn crying shame GameTek never got around to bringing The Price is Right to the NES, too."
As I understand it, the game was in the works but apparently cancelled. Anyway, here's a little taste of what we might've heard back in good ol' 1989 had it came to be.
This one's done in the style of the Rare-developed gameshow games that they did for GameTek (Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Double Dare).
As always, nsf and ftm are posted. Enjoy.

(UPDATED: 10/12/2011 12:37 AM CDT)
Added a WIP of "Come On Down!", which is the tune that plays when a contestant is called down into Contestants' Row or is called up on the stage. Also played during the intro of the show until the main theme begins playing. It is not yet complete, as I still need to add the bass line and the drums.
Do I get a brand new car, too? Btw, the song is good.

Wow, that triangle/square doubling is a really interesting orchestration. I like it.
This reminds me of being out of school for the summer as a kid, and unfortunately The Price is Right was the most interesting thing on television around 11am on a weekday.
Nice! I also remember the show back in the day (Canadian TV always sucked from 9 AM to 4:30 PM, so we needed the relief we got from The Price Is Right). :P
It's a well-made tune. It may be grounds for a fan-made NES game...

I did that because it best matches the original arrangement of the tune. If you listen to the original tune, the woodwinds and the brass appear to play the same or nearly the same notes except for a couple of places, and the ftm shows that in Square 1 and Triangle in frames 00 and 04 (line 00), and in frame 05 (line 0A).
As for making it into a fan-made game, if anyone wants to take on such a project and use the tune, so long as you give me credit for making the tune, consider the tune donated. I'm just churning these things out for giggles and fun anyway.
This is great! Triangle and sqaure layering was a great idea! Would you mind making the losing sound when you have the time? That would complete this. LOL

I posted an update to include the "Losing Horn" sound effect. I believe that's the one you're looking for, correct?
Also thinking about putting the second theme for the show in there at some point. The one that plays when a contestant is called from the audience down to Contestants' Row, or when a contestant wins and is called up on stage. I'm looking for a good MP3 or something to go by for that one.

1000 Bonus Points for you sir! Awesome. I got to cover a game show some time!

I've added a new track at #2, which is "Come On Down!", the opening tune that plays whenever someone is called to Contestants' Row, or called up on the stage to play a pricing game.
The tune is not complete. It's still WIP and is missing a bass line and its drums. Only the melody line plays right now. Other work calls, so it may be some time before I'm able to get back around to it, which is why I'm posting the WIP version (something I don't normally do).
If anyone wants to take a crack at it, feel free to. The only thing I ask is that I'd like to adhere to the style heard in most other Rare NES games, in particular the game show games that they produced for GameTek (i.e., Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Double Dare).
(EDIT: For reference, here's what I'm going by: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkhC0yP41aA)
As time permits and I can get back around to this one I'll see about filling it out if nobody has done that by that time.
Also, drexegar, if you don't mind my planting a bug in your ear, if you're inclined to do a game show and wouldn't mind taking a request, I had also thought about doing the "$25,000/$100,000 Pyramid" theme. That show would be easy pickin's in particular, because if memory serves me correctly, I believe that was the only musical score ever played on the show, minus sfx (and even then all you had was a bell ding, the cuckoo screwup sound, the buzzer, and the timer thing during the final round).
